Reggie McFadden: Why He Vanished to Tanzania | Documentary

Discover the true story of Reggie McFadden, the In Living Color comedy star who left Hollywood fame behind for an 18-year journey in Africa. Reginald "Reggie" McFadden was a brilliant stand-up comedian and actor who rose from Brooklyn public housing projects to the biggest stages in American comedy. Breaking through on HBO's groundbreaking Def Comedy Jam, he went on to captivate millions as a cast member and writer on Fox's legendary sketch show In Living Color, alongside memorable appearances on Martin, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Little Nicky. Yet at the height of his visibility, Reggie chose a path few could have imagined. Around 2008, he walked away from the entertainment industry and relocated to Tanzania, East Africa. For eighteen years, far from Hollywood agents and red carpets, he built an entirely independent life—running a gold mining venture and founding Olduvai Records, culminating in the release of his personal album ENJOY, Vol. 1 in 2025. In early October 2026, the U.S. State Department notified his family that Reggie had passed away in Tanzania at age 57. This biography documentary pays tribute to a fearless comic voice who lived entirely on his own terms, exploring his meteoric rise, his quiet reinvention across the ocean, and the lasting laughter he gifted the world.
