You see it all the time – the young black girl in a London secondary school that was strip searched a couple of years ago and even the way Nolan Wells’ mother had to correct a reporter from describing her 18 year old son as a man. Coming of Age movies have always been my favourite kind, but now I’m 38, I am realising that my attraction to them was because I had to grow up very, very fast. It’s almost like science fiction to me. This film was always going to be a personal pivot and so I was determined to avoid melodrama and cliché. It says a hell of a lot without saying too much and that’s always how I was going to approach this story." 🎙️ Dive deeper into the making of Dark Skin Bruises Differently with our exclusive interview with writer/director/actor Susan Wokoma https://directorsnotes.com/2026/10/20... 👉 Follow Us for More Short Film Greatness: Newsletter: https://directorsnotes.beehiiv.com/su...
