But today, at Lake Shourmast, I discovered that beauty can fit quietly inside a small circle of water, surrounded by tall trees that stand like old storytellers. While adults hurried to take more pictures, I watched them and wondered why they never stop long enough to listen to their own hearts—just like the soft sound of leaves falling on the lake. There’s something here that no travel guide really explains: a silence that makes you think about who you are. Like the hidden well in the desert, the peace of Shurmast is also tucked behind its surface. Sitting on the wooden pier with my feet dangling above the water, I realized that anyone who comes here must spend a little time taming this calmness. Because peace that isn’t tamed slips away—just like the foxes adults never have time to befriend. If you ever travel to Mazandaran, make sure you visit this lake.
