Date filmed: 14/07/2020 Route: The Fen Line Downham Market Station Location: Railway Road, Downham Market Trains: Class 387 111 (Great Northern) - Departs at 3:32 Found within the town of Downham Market within the Fens of Norfolk and located next to the railway station of the same name on a rather accurately-named "Railway Road". All four wigwags here have long shades for every light, with ANPR and light cameras located on each right-hand-side wigwag also present, and these are seen mostly at obstacle detection level crossings. The signal box beside this level crossing controls it, and two loud alarms pointing towards the ground sound when the barriers are lowering to allow trains to pass through, including the line's hourly passenger service, and at the time of filming, this particular southbound service ran directly between Cambridge to London King's Cross non-stop. The level crossing's surroundings are dominated by the very large and beige building of a flour mill located next to it, creating a rather bleak and gloomy feel to the area on that side of the level crossing, and around it in general. This also makes quite a lot of noise. Most notably at this location, and as can be seen in pictures at the end of the video, the station next to this level crossing has been preserved to be decorated in the style and colours of the former Network South East which would have run this station before privatisation of the railways handed over ownership of the station. The benches and lamp posts on the platforms here are red, and all of the signage here bears the red/blue/grey colour scheme that represents the former Network South East. I have since re-visited this location and properly gone onto the platforms, something which I didn't do on this date due to the general situation and restrictions at the time. Thanks for watching!
