Discussion Forum – Insights from the Science Panel of the Amazon (SPA)

This discussion forum brings together leading voices from the Science Panel for the Amazon (SPA) to share key insights on the future of Amazonian conservation. The SPA, launched in 2020, is a network of over 300 scientists working to integrate Indigenous and local knowledge with Western science to generate evidence-based solutions for sustainable development. In this session, panelists draw on their extensive on-the-ground experience across the Amazon basin to explore the region’s complex socio-ecological and political dynamics. The conversation highlights pathways to expand protected areas, restore ecosystems, and strengthen a sustainable sociobioeconomy, grounded in healthy forests, flowing rivers, and thriving communities.
