"The greatest enemy to people who are interested in informing folks is apathy and nihilism." Four journalists discuss how to cover a hostile Supreme Court, shrinking newsrooms and attacks on the press, and why telling the full truth about the country still matters. Topics include the Black press tradition from Freedom's Journal to today, covering voting rights rulings, working with news creators, and where to find reliable reporting.
Panelists: Errin Haines (The 19th*, president of the National Association of Black Journalists), Elie Mystal, Jason Johnson (Morgan State University) and Cristian Farias
Moderator: Michael Pinard, University of Maryland Carey School of Law
From the 2026 "We the People" symposium in Baltimore, co-hosted by the 14th Amendment Center for Law & Democracy and the Gibson-Banks Center for Race and the Law.
