Railfanning Los Angeles Union Station and Chatsworth Station - 2/21/2026

It was a good day at Los Angeles Union Station today. First, we saw Amtrak 580 that had P42DC #14 leading the Pacific Surfliner. But only to San Juan Capistrano due to construction work. After that, we went to the platform where Amtrak 777 was arriving into the station, I didn’t record the train arriving because I was still walking up to the platform where A777 was arriving into Union Station. We got a train meet when A777 departed LA Union Station with in inbound SB Line train arriving into Union Station. I was suprised that M1364’s engineer did like a few taps when it left the station, that engineer was really chill with the train conductor I knew before. The station was mostly dead because a few Amtrak Surfliner trains were cancelled due to the unavailability of the trainsets. We at least got to see Amtrak 4 departing Union Station with P42DC #44 leading out of the station with a two-tap. After that, we got into trouble because one of the security guards was telling OxnardRailfanner69 and me that we weren’t allowed to have tripods in the station because it was blocking the platform where the passengers were passing by. From now on, I won’t bring tripods when I railfan LA Union Station again. I was excited when A785 had P42DC #14 leading on my train. I had to waste $50 to purchase business class, and it was worth it as the Amtrak conductors provided snacks and drinks on the way to Chatsworth.
