Learn how to draw a mountain landscape step by step — even if you've never drawn before. This easy pencil tutorial makes realistic mountains simple. In this tutorial I draw a complete mountain lake landscape with pencil, from a blank sheet of paper to the finished artwork, in one continuous timelapse. No talking, no complicated theory — just the drawing, so you can follow along at your own pace or simply watch it unfold. The trick that makes this one beginner-friendly is the torn paper stencil. Instead of trying to sketch jagged peaks freehand, I fold and tear a strip of paper and use its ragged edge as a guide for the mountain range. That one technique is why the peaks come out looking natural on the first try. From there, the shading does the heavy lifting. I build a soft gradient across the sky, layer graphite over the mountains to create depth, then use an eraser to lift out the lake reflection — the negative space is what makes the water read as water. Erasers and blending tools do as much work in this drawing as the pencil does. The last third of the video is where it comes to life: pine trees and their mirrored reflections, gentle ripples across the surface, a glowing sun, and a few birds in flight. What you'll learn: • How to use a torn paper stencil to draw realistic mountain peaks • How to build a smooth sky gradient with pencil • How to create a water reflection using an eraser, not a pencil • How to draw pine trees and reflections that match • How to add ripples and depth to still water Tools used: graphite pencils, blending tissue, kneaded eraser, plain paper.
