Write Your Spec Script! with "Air" Screenwriter Alex Convery | The Greenlight Movie Pod

Screenwriter Alex Convery joins the show to pitch a Paul Newman sailing drama and discuss what it's like being Hollywood's go-to sports story guy. Alex's Michael Jordan spec script "Air" was made into a Golden Globe nominated film with Oscar winners Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Viola Davis. His next project is the Tiger Woods biopic, as well as a series about the Shohei Ohtani gambling scandal. 00:00 Intro 3:55 Round 1: Grease meets Driving Miss Daisy 12:35 Alex on chasing the story you want to tell and writing 'Air' on spec 23:52 Ant and Jono's meet-cute 24:58 Round 2: Happy Gilmore meets Titanic 38:20 Ant, Shane, and Alex all got their start at the Austin Film Festival 42:50 Round 3: A Star Is Born meets Armageddon 53:20 Shane's winning rant ---- A movie podcast from the people that write them. Three working screenwriters in the trenches of Hollywood play a game where they draw two random movies and are forced to instantly come up with a classic “this meets this” movie pitch. What started as a drinking game at Glen Powell’s house spiraled into hundreds of unhinged movie ideas, a few real script sales, and a ton of laughs. Now, it’s a podcast. Each episode is part interview, part game show where we’re joined by writers, actors, filmmakers, executives and celebrities to play along… all competing to pitch the one idea that gets the green light… while the rest get sent to development hell.
