1992 Transvaal Scottish 90th Anniversary Military Tattoo | Historical Record This historical footage records the 1992 Military Tattoo held to commemorate the 90th Anniversary of the Transvaal Scottish Regiment, founded in 1902. The event was conceived by Major Tony Macquet, Communications and Marketing Officer, as an indoor Military Tattoo and was staged at the Standard Bank Indoor Tennis Arena in South Africa. The Tattoo brought together an impressive collection of military and cultural participants, including members of the Atholl Highlanders, pipe bands and brass bands from across South Africa, as well as dancers from the Shona Robinson Dance Studio. The event culminated in a memorable Retreat Ceremony performed by the combined battalions of the Transvaal Scottish. Veteran Trevor “Porky” Wright, who served as Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) in charge of the parade and later became Chairman of the Transvaal Scottish Regimental Association, recalled the Retreat Ceremony as one of his finest achievements. Conducting a military parade normally requiring a soccer-pitch-sized parade ground within the confines of a slightly oversized tennis court — with only five days to practise — made the achievement particularly remarkable. This video has been preserved and shared as part of the historical record of the Transvaal Scottish Regiment, its members, traditions and military heritage.
