A comparison between designs of characters from Fate series and their counterparts from manga and trading card game, Yu-Gi-Oh! (As of the current cards released).
Decided to organize them into two categories: Those not belong to Archetype and those belong to Archetype, and from those will be categorized according to their Archetypes.
I will also include a short description of what the monsters are from the Archetypes. Timestamps below:
00:00 Intro
00:12 Non Archetype
01:29 Ancient Warriors: Based on and named after characters from "Romance of Three Kingdoms" with their names being their Japanese and Chinese names combined.
01:44 Artifact: Based on mythological weapons of same name.
02:52 Bujin: Based on Japanese folklore.
03:12 Constellar: Based on the constellations and named after the stars within the constellations.
03:20 D/D: Based on creatures and figures from Western myth, while those have Savant in their names are based on great inventors/scientists of Western world.
03:53 D/D/D: Based on and named after historical figures, usually generals or kings. While others are named after apocalyptical events.
04:48 Entity: Based on Outer Gods from H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos.
04:58 Fire Fist: Based on characters from "Water Margin" with their name combined with an animal (only in OCG). Also, I misspelt Hyuan Zhou as Hyuan Zhao, so apology for the mistake.
05:13 Forbidden: No specific them but the cards are based on holy artifacts such the Holy Grail and Holy Spear.
05:23 Generaider: Based on Norse Mythology with concept of raid boss from JRPG mixed in.
05:33 Heroic Champion: A sub-archetype of Heroice, these monsters are based mythological weapons of same name.
05:59 Lswarm: Comprised of corrupted versions of previous cards from other archetypes. Which I should have done better by showing the original cards.
06:12 Magical Musket: The Archetype is based on the German folklore "Freischütz", a story about a marksman who made a contract with the devil to obtain seven magic bullets with supernatural accuracy. The first six bullets are subservient to the wielder's control, while the seventh will be in the devil's grip completely.
Most monsters are based on the characters from the opera version of the story that has name and appearance of famous Wild West outlaws.
06:32 Mitsurugi: Based on Japanese Myth with Orochi element mixed in?
06:47 Noble Knight: Based on Arthurian Myth with few characters based on Charlemange and his paladins.
09:26 Nordic: Based on Norse myth.
10:01 Runick: Based on Norse myth with RPG action element to it.
10:14 Valkyrie: Based on Valkyries of Norse Myth.
10:29 End
This is an ongoing series of comparisons, taking a look at how other series design and interpret their mythological/historical figures to how Fate does in turn.
Remember to keep spoiler light to those who are new to playing FGO or those who haven't reached the new story chapters yet.
Comment down below what series I should compare next with similar-named mythological/historical figures.
