Here we have the final mission of the China campaign. We have found the GLA cell causing all the trouble in China and we've been sent to wipe them out. This is a pretty difficult mission as we get a lot of different weapons thrown at us, including the GLA Scud Storm which does cause serious problems if it hits your main defenses.
To start off we push forward and destroy the small GLA base in the south east. note how I keep the GLA Supply Center so that I can steal money. This is really important as money is really tight on this mission. One of the hardest things is to get your base set up and running without running out of resources. There are a few round the GLA supply center and few more just north, but then you have to push north to find more, which is really hard.
I find it best to steal from the GLA early on, get a barracks and Propaganda center set up and train some hackers to start bringing in extra income. Spread them around your base in small groups so that a Scud Storm doesn't come in and kill them all.
Build up a really solid defensive line to your base with some rockets bunkers, gatling cannons and propaganda towers. It is really important to keep that defensive line in check. I have tried a few times with different types of units and it seems that just going heavy on the overlords is a solid tactic. Inferno cannons are good for getting the buggies and scud launchers, but they are weak and get destroyed easily.
As long as you keep your eye on the defensive line constantly and adapt to whatever is happening you should be alright.
When the GLA fire the first scud storm, the worst place for it to land is on your defensive line and completely open your base up to attack. That is exactly what happened to me here, but I luckily pushed all my units forward. I took a fair hit on my defenses but think I managed the situation alright.
By now, our base is set up and we have a nuke on countdown, upgrading our tanks, training hackers for cash as the resources are running low, and just making sure to hold that defensive line!
It seems that as soon as you push north into the town (usually to take the oil rig) that is when the GLA will start sending the scud launchers. Taking the oil rig isnt that hard if you push your forces up and send a dozer to drop a speaker tower and some bunkers, but when the scuds start flying it gets really annoying and you have to be contanstly keeping your eye on that area.
There is a second GLA base set up in the middle of the map, with lots of defenses and particularly Jarmen Kel hidden in a tower. He will snipe your tanks if you get too close. I chose instead to ignore the middle base for now and just push up as offensively as I could with my overlords. My main goal here was to open up as much fog as I could so I could start dropping nukes as close to the top GLA base as I can get them. I think it worked quite well but I should have sent in a secondary force of overlords quicker to back up the first few. Once my tanks were all destroyed, I dropped my first nuke as far into the GLA base as I could put it.
After the first nuke it beocmes a bit of a fight trying to just hold off the GLA troops and I lose a lot of overlords here - those scud launchers are a real challenge. It takes quite a while but once I have the two nukes and the GLA scud storm is destroyed a second time, at that point I am pretty confident I have the upper hand and it becomes a case of just holding that defensive line long enough for my nukes to drop a few times.
At minute 46 I very nearly go on another offensive push with my overlords and some MiGs, but I last minute decide to just hold with the defensive play. Its working and im building up a lot of resources now and my nukes are slowly dealing the damage I want to the top GLA base. In the late game I upgrade my overlords speed and attack at the nuke silos, which completely changes the game. I wish i had done those upgrades way earlier and saved myself so may overlords.
It was a really hard mission with constant attack and it took me a few attempts to win, but finally I got a fairly satisfying victory I think.
