In a bout 5-30% of IVF stimulation cycles, serum progesterone stats to rise sufficiently to impact on the live embryo transfer pregnancy rate. In such cases, the recommended protocol is to freeze all the embryos and transfer them in subsequent FET cycles. What’s interesting though is that the embryos appear to develop faster from follicles that experience an rising progesterone! What is clear is that they fail to implant because it seems that the window of implantation has been modified and is no longer accessible to the embryo. What was more important is the observation that a rising progesterone is a function of excessive follicle numbers AND low LH. Stimulation regimens that are FSH ( and not LH) are the cause, Read on and understand why a rising progesterone is both god and bad.
