Saint Stoyna and Zlatolist Village – One of Bulgaria’s Most Mysterious Spiritual Places In this 4K drone video, we take you to the small and picturesque village of Zlatolist, near Melnik in southwestern Bulgaria, and to the Church of St. George – a place forever connected with the remarkable life of Saint Stoyna (Prepodobna Stoyna). Prepodobna Stoyna was born in 1883 in the village of Haznatar, then part of the Ottoman Empire. As a child, she lost her eyesight after suffering from smallpox. Her life later became deeply connected with faith, prayer, spirituality, and helping people who came to seek her guidance. According to stories and local traditions preserved about her, Stoyna possessed extraordinary spiritual sensitivity and was believed to have the ability to foresee certain events. People travelled from different places to meet her, seeking advice, comfort, hope, and help. Over the years, numerous stories of visions, predictions, and miraculous healings became associated with her. Many of these accounts have been passed down orally through generations and remain part of the local traditions surrounding her life. In the early 20th century, Stoyna settled in Zlatolist, where she spent much of her life in a small room adjoining the Church of St. George. It was here that she received visitors and lived a remarkably modest life devoted to faith and prayer. Today, visitors can still see the place associated with her life inside the church complex. People continue to travel to Zlatolist not only for its beautiful scenery and peaceful atmosphere, but also to visit Prepodobna Stoyna’s small room and learn about the extraordinary woman whose story has fascinated generations. Another remarkable landmark is the huge old plane tree in the church courtyard, which has become one of the symbols of Zlatolist. Various local beliefs and traditions have developed around the tree, and many visitors associate it with prayers, wishes, and hope. Prepodobna Stoyna died in 1933, but her memory remains very much alive. Although she has not been officially canonized as a saint by the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, she is revered by many people as an important spiritual figure.
