The Narrows in Zion National Park is one of the most famous hikes in America, and one of the most underestimated.** Thousands of people walk into the Virgin River every year thinking it's an easy, scenic stroll. But flash floods, freezing water, hidden currents, toxic algae and slippery "bowling ball" rocks have turned dream hikes into rescues, and sometimes worse.
In this video, I break down the real dangers of hiking The Narrows that most travel videos skip, and exactly what you need to know before you go, so your trip ends with great photos instead of a call to search and rescue.
⚠️ *What you'll learn:*
• Why flash floods in The Narrows can hit even when the sky above you is clear
• How the slot canyon traps you, with walls up to 1,000 feet high and nowhere to climb out
• The hypothermia risk most hikers ignore (yes, even in summer)
• Toxic cyanobacteria in the Virgin River and why you should never drink untreated water
• Why most injuries come from the riverbed itself
• When the park closes The Narrows, and how to check conditions before you go
• Gear that actually matters: canyoneering shoes, neoprene socks, a walking stick and dry bags
• Bottom-up vs. top-down hikes, and which one is right for you

📍 *Before you hike, always check:*
• Zion National Park's current flash flood forecast at the visitor center or nps.gov/zion
• River flow levels and current closures
• The weather upstream, not just where you're standing
