Long term goal is to replace the shocks and springs on my 1997 Jeep TJ. All of the bolts are so rusty there’s some work I want to do before I get to the actual suspension. This includes sway bar links and bushings and control arms. Today’ project is the sway bar stuff. Should be easy, right? Yeah, should be… But it’s TDSR so we’ll see. As I note in the video, you end up needing to reuse the bolts on the sway bar links and the flag nuts on the sway bar link bolts to the frame. The nuts for the sway bar bushing retainers are tack welded to the backside of the axle bracket. So if you want to replace the bolt and nut hardware on this job, it’s really only going to be 4 bolts (M10x1.5x30) and 2 nuts (M10x1.5). For the stock bolts and nuts, you’ll need a 15mm and 18mm socket. If you bust off one of the tack welded nuts for the retainer bolts, those are also an 18mm box wrench. Putting it all back together, the torque for everything is 54 ft-lbs (assuming you can get a torque wrench in there). The sway bar link bolts are all M10x1.5x66 with M10x1.5 nuts for the lower nuts (and the upper if you break/ruin the flag nuts). Project TJ is the chronicling of working on my 1997 Jeep Wrangler. It's the SE version of a TJ with a 2.5L four cylinder and a standard transmission. At the time of making this video, the Jeep had ~204,400 miles on it. I hope you enjoy!
