Most AI founders raise from venture capital. Andy Pandharikar invited teachers, firefighters, retirees and doctors to invest in his AI company instead. Why would a founder make that choice, and what does he owe them now?
Andy is the founder and CEO of Commerce.ai, which builds AI voice and chat agents for customer service and contact centers. We get into why his company now runs on a much smaller team than it once did, what happens to call center workers as AI takes over their jobs, and why he sees crowdfunding as his own answer to that question.
He also takes us back to the first startup he built and sold, a do-or-die pitch at TechCrunch Disrupt, the pivot his team and investors pushed back on, and what “enough” means to a founder after an exit.
The Second Whistle is a podcast about immigrant builders and what it really takes to build a second life in America. New episode every other Tuesday.
