Keynote Address: Advancing National Unity, Regional Stability and Shared Prosperity

In his keynote address, the Speaker reviewed the role of the State of Pakistan in conflict resolution from the establishment of Pakistan to the present day, and reflected on what justice truly means and why it is the cornerstone of peace. He paid tribute to the Armed Forces of Pakistan for their response on 9 May to Indian aggression, and highlighted the importance of that response for the defence and honour of the country. Turning to the economy, he said that institutions which do not pay taxes should be held answerable, since non-payment of taxes is one of the reasons the country faces an economic crisis. He stated that if institutions function strictly within the capacities and limits laid down in the Constitution of Pakistan, their performance will improve markedly, and that constitutional discipline is the best guarantee of stability. He observed that political parties are proof of the unity of the people, and that dialogue and negotiation are indispensable in the life of nations. Differences, he said, must be resolved through talks and democratic means. In conclusion, he offered prayers and good wishes for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Asim Munir and all those, including members of the armed forces, who are playing their part in establishing peace and stability in the country.
