In our previous video, we reverse titrated a standard lawn care lime and a "fast acting" lime to validate the claims of one lime being more powerful than the other. It was widely requested we perform the same test on MAG-I-CAL. So the question stands, is MAG-I-CAL 5, 10, or 15x's stronger than regular lime? To reverse titrate this, a 1 molar solution of HCl and NaOH were prepared. 1 gram of each lime product was dissolved in 25mL HCl and heated just before boiling. 100mL of deionized water was added to the HCl and lime mixture and heated and stirred until all the lime had dissolved. 5 drops of indicator dye was added The 1M solution of NaOH was dropped in until pink remained for 15 seconds while swirling. Using the ENV formula, 1 ton of this product = 1760lbs of standard, fine, calcium carbonate. These two products were equal in efficacy and slightly less effective than pure calcium carbonate (likely due to impurities). This is the information your soil pH meter can't give you! Do you have a lime product you want me to review?
