FROM DEFEAT TO DUTY PART 1

There are moments in the life of a nation when defeat appears to close a chapter. Yet sometimes, what looks like an ending becomes the beginning of a deeper journey. I am producing a documentary entitled “From Defeat to Duty: The Political Journey of Patrick Herminie, 2020–2025.” This film begins with the historic political defeat of United Seychelles in 2020—a moment of disappointment, uncertainty and serious reflection. It then follows the difficult road of reconstruction: the rebuilding of trust, the strengthening of party structures, the return to communities and the five-year struggle to reconnect with the Seychellois people. But this documentary is not simply a story about returning to power. It is a story about what happens after victory. Because winning an election may complete one journey, but it immediately begins another—the journey of leadership, accountability and service. Through archival footage, personal testimony, campaign moments, public speeches and the voices of ordinary citizens, From Defeat to Duty will explore the transformation of Patrick Herminie from opposition leader, to presidential candidate, and ultimately to President of the Republic of Seychelles. The documentary will examine not only the celebrations, but also the pressure, the promises, the challenges and the responsibilities that come with governing a nation. At its heart, this is also a story about Seychelles—about democracy, resilience, national unity and the relationship between political leadership and the people it is called to serve. From Defeat to Duty asks one central question: How does a political movement rise after defeat—and what happens when the struggle for power becomes the responsibility to govern? This is not merely a record of political victory. It is an invitation to reflect on leadership, duty and the future we are creating together.
