On August 7, 2026, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey signed the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement, which includes the principle of collective security in the event of an armed attack on one member. However, amid the Houthi crisis, debate has intensified regarding the actual military utility of this agreement and the potential role of Pakistan and Turkey. According to recent reports, Pakistan has appealed to Iran to stop Houthi attacks through diplomatic means rather than direct military intervention.
