2 hours of driving Japanese taiko for a carp climbing a waterfall — flute and drums from the bank, white water, black rock, and one enormous vermilion fish refusing to be washed back down. Builds from still water into full-force percussion and does not let up. For training, deep work, writing and anything that needs stubbornness. No repeats, no loops, one continuous two-hour set. The rabbit is up on the rock with a flute and has been playing since the first attempt. The frog has the drum. Neither of them can help in any practical way, so they are doing the only thing they can: keeping time loud enough to climb to. 🎏 About the legend: Chinese and Japanese tradition holds that a carp which fights its way up the falls at the Dragon Gate becomes a dragon. It is the standard image for endurance rather than talent — the carp does not fly up, it gets knocked back and starts again. This is part one.
