On the night He was betrayed, before the garden, before the soldiers, before the cross, Jesus did something most people read right past. He sang.
The Gospels tell us that after the Last Supper, Jesus and His disciples sang a hymn before walking out into the darkness. They never tell us its name. But an ancient Passover tradition points to one song in particular. And when you hear the words He would have been singing, knowing exactly what was about to happen, it is hard not to feel a shiver.
This same psalm holds one of the most quoted verses in the Bible, a line printed on mugs and calendars that almost no one truly understands. And just days earlier, an entire crowd sang its words in the streets of Jerusalem, before their voices turned in a way no one expected.
This is a reflection for anyone who has felt rejected, abandoned by people they trusted, or trapped in a season that feels like the night before a storm.
In this reflection on Psalm 118, we will step into the upper room on the night of the Passover, listen to the song Jesus sang before the cross, and discover why every line of it carries a meaning you may never forget.
