Nepal currently has two major Asian highways (AH-02 and AH-42) that promote its international connectivity, trade, and regional integration.. AH-02 largely follows the existing Mahendra Highway, linking eastern and western Nepal, while AH-42 connects Kathmandu to Birgunj via the Araniko Highway and beyond to China and India. These highways are being upgraded with funding from international sources like the World Bank and ADB to improve infrastructure and foster economic growth. Asian Highway 02 (AH-02) -- This route is a significant portion of the Mahendra Highway, spanning the country from the eastern border at Kakarbhitta to the western border at Mahendranagar. It connects major cities and plays a vital role in Nepal's East-West connectivity.
