Stop Are You Stuck in the Pentatonic Box? Do This Instead If you know the five pentatonic positions but still find yourself stuck inside one box, this exercise is designed to help. In this lesson, we're taking one simple four-note pattern and moving it through all five positions of the pentatonic scale. Instead of simply memorizing five separate shapes, you'll start to see how the positions connect and how to move across the fretboard. This exercise also works on several important guitar skills at the same time: 🎸 Alternate Picking – build consistent down-up picking 🎸 Fretting-Hand Synchronization – get both hands working together cleanly 🎸 Fretboard Visualization – understand where you are and where you're moving next 🎸 Timing & Control – practice the pattern with a metronome and keep every note even Start slowly and focus on clean playing, synchronization, and accuracy before increasing the speed. The goal isn't just to learn another pentatonic exercise. The goal is to make the five positions feel like one connected fretboard. 🎸 Practice the exercise Start at a comfortable tempo and gradually increase the BPM as your technique improves.
