Welcome back to Episode 17 of my Summer Trainspotting 2026 series! 🚆
The next set of episodes will be releasing from 11th August 2026, starting with a slightly early-morning spotting session at Alexandra Palace.
In this episode, we’ll be seeing services operated by LNER, Great Northern, Thameslink, Hull Trains and Lumo. Also featured in this video is a Rail Adventure move from Cricklewood Depot to the Mid-Norfolk Railway.
With a great mix of operators, plenty of morning services and a special Rail Adventure movement, this was another enjoyable session of trainspotting on the ECML.
Next up, I’ll be back at a familiar spot on the ECML… I wonder where that could be? 👀

A Short History of Alexandra Palace Station
Alexandra Palace station first opened in 1873, originally serving the Great Northern Railway’s branch line from Highgate to Alexandra Palace.
The original branch eventually closed to regular passenger services in 1954, although the station itself remained in use on the main line. Today, Alexandra Palace is served by Great Northern trains on the East Coast Main Line, providing services between London and destinations such as Welwyn Garden City and Stevenage.
