Hall and Michael Woodford for their work on the microeconomic foundations of macroeconomic stabilisation. Their research helped build a stronger theoretical base for the economic models used by central banks and governments to understand and respond to shocks in the economy. In this video, we explain how their work connects individual behaviour, consumption decisions, labour markets, interest rates and price dynamics with broader macroeconomic outcomes. Their contributions have influenced modern approaches to monetary policy, business cycles, inflation control and economic stabilisation. The session also explains why such models are important when economies face shocks such as energy crises, sudden changes in household consumption, inflationary pressures or financial instability. We also discuss the special status of this award, formally known as the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, and how it differs historically from the original Nobel Prizes. This topic is highly relevant for UPSC Prelims 2027, UPSC Mains GS Paper 3, Indian Economy, Monetary Policy, Macroeconomics and Current Affairs. ************************************************************************** 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐓𝐮𝐛𝐞 Important 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬- 1.
