Few details are known about the Italian theorbist and composer Filippo Sauli. His most notable compositions are six partitas for the Baroque mandolin, which where written around 1700. The piece I am playing here is the second movement, Allemande, from Partita No. 5 in G minor. The instrument is a six-course mandolino (Baroque mandolin), built by James Marriage based on an original Milanese instrument currently exhibited at the Cité de la musique museum in Paris.
