Welcome kindred souls.
There are forces moving in the collective unconscious we cannot control. We won’t defeat evil by striking its surface. The most effective work is inner - meeting the shadow and our complexes, making conscious anima/animus as guides, and cultivating a living relationship with the Self.
When we refuse the shadow, the psyche projects it outward. We feel righteous fighting “evil” outside while, inside, a split-off part gathers power like a thief testing a window at night. Addiction and compulsion are signs of this takeover - a kind of possession by our own shadow. The way forward is to stop scapegoating and turn toward the rejected parts within, accepting that we are limited and hold both light and shadow.
When someone truly walks individuation - confronting darkness, grandiosity, selfishness, and regression - it radiates. Like one candle lighting others. Like contagious laughter.
Jung, CW 10 §583:
“Anyone who has insight into his own actions and has thus found access to the unconscious involuntarily exercises an influence on his environment.”
