Come with us on the long journey from Bangkok to Koh Lipe, travelling south by first-class overnight sleeper train, taxi and speedboat. Beautiful train-window scenery, a sudden storm in Hat Yai, and clear turquoise water waiting at the end. It took a while to get there, but it was worth it!
After our time in northern Thailand, we flew back from Chiang Rai to Bangkok and spent a few more days there. This part of our holiday begins at Hua Lamphong station. We booked three first-class compartments, with two berths in each, for the overnight journey to Hat Yai.
We spent two nights in Hat Yai, visiting CentralFestival and the beautiful Songkhla Central Mosque, feeding the fish and getting caught in a tropical storm. Then an early taxi took us to Pak Bara pier for the speedboat journey, stopping at Koh Tarutao and Koh Khai before arriving on Koh Lipe.
Two nights on the island gave us time for Sunrise Beach, a hot afternoon bicycle ride to a quiet cove, snorkelling and a peaceful sunrise. We have kept some of our favourite scenery a little longer, so you can settle in and enjoy the journey with us.
A quiet travel film with on-screen comments and an instrumental soundtrack. No spoken narration. Watch in 2160p HDR on a compatible screen for the best available quality. Some original footage was recorded in 1080p and is upscaled within the 4K film.
Filmed December 2021–January 2022. This records our route at the time; departure stations and travel arrangements may have changed. The train takes us to Hat Yai; Koh Lipe is reached by road transfer and speedboat.
