Going in, all I really knew about Kelly Clarkson was "Since You've Been Gone" and American Idol — so this was essentially my first proper listen to her. I picked this stripped-back live version rather than the studio one, and I think it was the right call — the minimalism really lets her voice do the talking. There's real character and control in it, and that piano comes into its own in a way a fuller production might have buried.
