AI Plays Minecraft Episode 08 A Creeper Drops In

AI Plays Minecraft - Episode 8: A Creeper Drops In In this series, I coach Claude in how to play Minecraft. It is interesting to see what techniques Claude develops to play better over time. There are just two simple rules. Rule 1 (for Claude): No cheating. Only interact with the world in the way that a player could. F3 is allowed. Rule 2 (for me): No in-game taking over the character. I can talk in the chat or in Claude's window to give hints but cannot take over to get it out of trouble. To make this process slightly easier, KeepInventory is on, F3 is allowed so that Claude can see its world position and yaw/pitch, and the targeted block from the text. Entity hit boxes are also turned on. Otherwise it is a default vanilla survival world. From episode 6, Claude started to make more use of Pause/Unpause while it was thinking as the LLM round trip takes seconds not milliseconds. All the pause screens have been cut from the video. Scripts Claude wrote for this episode: stair.py (changed) - now spots coal as well as iron, checks at most 2 patches per step, and never puts a torch on the block it is about to dig vein.py (changed) - --ignore for known water sounds, --pick for the pickaxe slot (it had been using the coal slot), walks within pickup range of the drops, pillars back up out of deep holes vein_test.py - offline tests for vein.py in a fake world (mocked F3 reads, movement and gravity) route.py (changed) - walks without holding jump (auto-jump does the steps), long strides on clear routes, cuts through leaves when stuck stepfix.py (changed) - climbs stairs without holding jump pathfind.py - plans a walking route around trees and drops from the saved ground heights gui.py, route.py, stair.py and others (changed) - hold a lock so guard.py does not pause the game in the middle of their clicks Chapters: 0:00 Day 38 1:45 Day 39 5:02 Day 40 6:46 Day 41
