Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami is currently a member of the Central Committee of the CPI (M) after serving as State Secretary of his party in Jammu and Kashmir for over three decades. He was elected as MLA on CPI (M) ticket from Kulgam in South Kashmir in 1996, 2002, 2008 and 2014. In 1996, he supported the National Conference government of Dr Farooq Abdullah. In 2002, he supported Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's PDP-Congress coalition.
