What If Ned Stark Brought Robb Stark to King's Landing

When King Robert Baratheon journeys north to name Eddard Stark Hand of the King, Ned refuses to ride south alone. Jon Arryn died suddenly in the capital, and Lysa Arryn's secret letter warns of Lannister poison. Ned leaves Catelyn and Maester Luwin to govern Winterfell with Bran and Rickon, and brings his eldest son, Robb, south to court. In King's Landing, Robb works as his father's clerk. He reviews the household ledgers and posts northern guards along the Tower of the Hand. With Robb beside him, Ned investigates Jon Arryn's death and the lineage of the royal children. Petyr Baelish offers easy promises, while Lord Varys peddles rumors. Two Starks are harder to fool than one. When a wild boar mortally wounds King Robert during a hunt in the Kingswood, Queen Cersei moves to claim the Iron Throne. Robb and Ser Barristan Selmy must act quickly to protect the Stark household before Lannister guards surround their quarters. Father and son stand together inside the Red Keep and break the traps laid by their rivals. Ned does not face the court alone. With Robb at his side and northern sentries on the stairs, the wolves of Winterfell keep their hands on their swords.
