Earth once held two worlds that seem like they should not belong together: frozen continents locked beneath enormous glaciers, and humid forests where insects grew to sizes that feel almost impossible today.
This video explores the Late Paleozoic Icehouse, also known as the Karoo Ice Age, a vast interval when ice spread across the southern supercontinent Gondwana while life on land was changing in extraordinary ways. Coal swamps, towering plants, oxygen-rich air, shifting seas, and expanding forests helped create ecosystems unlike anything on the modern planet.
In these ancient landscapes, giant dragonfly-like insects, huge millipedes, early reptiles, amphibians, and strange arthropods moved through warm lowland environments, even while other parts of Earth were shaped by glaciation. The planet was not simply frozen or tropical. It was divided, unstable, and full of extremes.
The mystery is how these forces shaped evolution. Glaciers locked away water, sea levels rose and fell, forests expanded and collapsed, and oxygen levels may have helped insects grow far larger than they can today. Every change in climate rearranged habitats, opened opportunities, and pushed life toward new forms of survival.
This documentary follows a forgotten Earth of ice sheets and giant wings — a planet where the cold power of glaciers and the strange abundance of prehistoric forests existed at the same time. Long before dinosaurs, Earth was already building worlds that feel almost alien.
