It drops south into Kitashinchi, the nightlife district in plain daylight with every sign switched off. Crossing to Nakanoshima, the sun comes up over the river and lights the stone of the old public buildings — the Central Public Hall, the prefectural library, the Bank of Japan. From Yodoyabashi the route follows Midosuji south, its ginkgo trees already throwing shade across the pavement, then turns into the back lanes of Semba where shutters are lifting one by one.
