I went out to Bangpu Recreation Center—one of the best birding hotspots near Bangkok—to search for a species I’ve never seen before: the Black Baza. This place is famous for its huge numbers of shorebirds, gulls, and migratory visitors, but I wasn’t sure if I’d actually find my target today. The morning started strong with plenty of birds along the boardwalks and mudflats, but the Black Baza refused to show itself.
