DO MINHOCÃO AO JARAGUÁ — 1 AM, a drift run out of central São Paulo, from the empty Minhocão elevated highway over Santa Cecília down through Barra Funda, Lapa and the warehouse streets along the Marginal Tietê, then out along the Bandeirantes highway and up the forest road to the transmitter towers on the Pico do Jaraguá, the highest point of the city. The ramp onto the Minhocão, the elevated road over Santa Cecília, apartment windows a metre away, Marechal Deodoro deserted below the concrete, dropping into Barra Funda, the rail tracks at Água Branca, sliding sideways through Lapa, the old Lapa market shuttered, warehouses along the Marginal, trucks asleep outside the Ceagesp, the Piqueri bridge, an empty toll plaza on the Bandeirantes, a highway with no one on it, the exit for the Jaraguá, the winding road through the dark forest, fog on the peak, the red lights of the transmitter towers, the whole city spread out below — and first light behind the peak as the city lights fade, with the Jaraguá all yours until the sun comes up. The set plays through twice, so put it on and leave it running. No talking, no ads inside the mix, no interruptions.
