The Harris County Robert W. Hainsworth Legal Tech Institute presents "Mastering Technology in Legal Matters" by Andrea Barr. This training will examine technology’s advances with AI, cloud-based programs, use of e-discovery programs or vendors, and devices. Attorneys have obligations under the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct to continue to be competent in technology, and this course discusses what that entails and how the obligation is fluid when technology continues to advance. The course also shows some hands-on changes to your iPhone settings and discusses ways to also protect privileged information or to vet vendors. The course also discusses certain legal issues that come up in practice, including (1) pitfalls when someone dies and how technological and digital assets are addressed under the Uniform Fiduciary Access to Digital Assets Act and (2) use of digital signatures under the Texas Uniform Electronic Transactions Act.
