A glance, an unfinished gesture, two hands almost touching. How do artists make an inner life visible?
Beginning with Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus, this short cinematic art essay explores beauty, vulnerability, love and spiritual longing through eight extraordinary works.
Look closely at the details: Venus’s expression, Mona Lisa’s hands, the space between God and Adam, the movement of Rubens’s Three Graces, and the golden embrace of Klimt’s The Kiss.
Along the way, we encounter El Greco’s Mary Magdalene, Millais’s Ophelia and Raphael’s Sistine Madonna—and consider how differently artists have imagined the relationship between body and soul.
Which painting stayed with you, and what did you notice that you had never seen before? Tell us in the comments.
