This model railway is housed in a refurbished building in Markeaton Park, Derby. The original 40 ft long 00 gauge layout was donated by Derek Chandley and is based on Chinley station, in  Derbyshire, in the 1950's when it had four mainline tracks running through it. The layout has been extended and is now almost 60 ft long. The extended layout includes a canal basin serving a quarry and a fictitious Derbyshire village with branch line terminus, goods yard and a rail-served factory. Most of the trains are steam hauled and include such 'Famous Trains' as the Flying Scotsman, the Bournemouth Belle, the Golden Arrow and the Cornish Riveria Express. Trains from earlier years may appear as well as more modern diesel and electric ones. Trains from abroad also make an occasional appearance. I have been trying to visit this model railway for a few years and have finally made it. Well worth a visit if you are in the area and only £2.50 for an adult ticket (valid all day).
