Planning Yosemite? Here’s What You Shouldn’t Miss

Yosemite National Park travel guide: join us for hikes to some of Yosemite's best waterfalls, unforgettable views of Half Dome, and a private Ansel Adams Gallery photography tour — everything you need to help plan your own trip. On this trip, we split our stay between Evergreen Lodge for a relaxed first night and a more upscale lodge inside the park, so we could compare both experiences. From there we hit the trails — multiple hikes through Yosemite Valley took us past some of the park's most iconic waterfalls, and we caught views of Half Dome from several different vantage points around the park, each one showing a completely different angle of the granite monolith. We also booked a photography tour through the Ansel Adams Gallery, learning how to frame and shoot the same iconic landscapes that made Ansel Adams' black-and-white photography so famous. We didn't get to see everything Yosemite has to offer (nobody does in one trip!), but we're sharing everything we experienced so you can start planning your own visit. CAN'T-MISS YOSEMITE EXPERIENCES FOR YOUR TRIP: • Tunnel View – the classic postcard view of Half Dome, El Capitan, and Bridalveil Fall, best at sunrise or sunset • Mist Trail – hike to Vernal Fall (and push on to Nevada Fall) and feel the spray up close • Glacier Point – panoramic views over Yosemite Valley and Half Dome from above • Yosemite Falls – North America's tallest waterfall, most powerful in spring from snowmelt • El Capitan Meadow – look straight up at the massive granite face and watch for rock climbers • Mariposa Grove – walk among giant sequoias, some over 2,000 years old • Ansel Adams Gallery – browse original prints or book a photography walk to shoot Yosemite like a pro • Tioga Road & Tuolumne Meadows – seasonal (summer/fall only), a quieter, high-country side of the park PLANNING TIPS: As of 2026, Yosemite does not require an advance vehicle reservation to enter the park, but lodging, campgrounds, and the Half Dome cables permit lottery still fill up fast, so book those as early as you can. Always double-check the official NPS Yosemite site before your trip since rules can change season to season.
