This is a story of how I grew my own Cuban tobacco, starting with tiny seeds planted back in February and ending with a hand-rolled cigar made from my own tobacco leaves.
It all started at the end of winter, when I planted the seeds indoors and began growing the seedlings. A little later, I transplanted them in two stages, added organic fertilizer, and spent the following months taking care of the plants. There was plenty of work along the way — removing suckers and flowers, watching the plants grow, and waiting for the right moment to harvest the leaves.
Throughout the season, I harvested tobacco leaves in several stages, including the first Volado leaves and the higher leaf primings. I also experimented with different drying methods to see how the leaves would turn out.
But growing tobacco was only half the journey. Once the leaves were dried, it was time to prepare my fermentation chamber and begin the fermentation process. I show how I fermented the leaves, aired them out, and continued the process until they were ready for the next step.
And finally, after months of growing, harvesting, drying, and fermenting, I rolled my very own cigar using tobacco grown right here at home. It took a whole season of work to get from a handful of tiny seeds to a finished cigar. I hope you enjoy following this journey as much as I enjoyed making it.
Thanks for watching, my friends!
