Couldn't do Ladakh, so we rode to Kanyakumari. K2K Episode 1: a Mumbai to Munnar bike ride on a Dominar 250 across 4 states in 6 days. 27 hairpin bends on Dimbam Ghat, a wild elephant in the forest, a camera lost on Day 1 and a sunset nobody planned. This is Episode 1 of our Kalyan to Kanyakumari motorcycle journey: Kalyan, Pune, Belagavi, Chikmagalur, Mysuru and Munnar. THE STORY For years the road was something I watched from a Mumbai train window. Ladakh was supposed to be this year's ride. It didn't happen, so Mayur and I picked the other end of the map and rode south, logging in to work on weekdays and riding in between. Day 1 began with a loss: my action camera fell off before Khandala Ghat and I had to replace it in Pune. The road gave a lot back: Khandala fog, a night ride into Belagavi, a Chikmagalur sunset that was never on the itinerary, two days in Mysuru, and a day through the Sathyamangalam and Annamalai forests that ended in the tea estates of Munnar. ABOUT THE K2K SERIES K2K is a 4,000+ kms bike ride from Kalyan to Kanyakumari and back, ridden over about three weeks in September and October 2026. Only 10 of those days were leave. The rest were work days, so a lot of the riding happens early in the morning, to log in on time.
