What If Aliens Are Already Watching Us? (The Zoo Theory)

On the fifteenth of August, 1977, an astronomer in Ohio saw a seventy-two-second burst on a radio telescope printout, circled it in red, and wrote one word in the margin: “Wow!” It has never been heard again. In this video, we look at one of the strangest answers to the silence of the universe: the Zoo Theory. We start with Enrico Fermi’s famous question, “Where is everybody?”, and why the Milky Way should be full of civilizations. We look at the Drake equation, the Great Filter, and what Kardashev and Dyson said about civilizations we could see. Then we get to John Ball’s 1973 idea that advanced aliens may be keeping Earth as a wildlife reserve, and why people take it seriously. We also cover its big problems: it needs every civilization to agree, it cannot be tested, and it does not explain why it would be us. Along the way: the Wow! signal, SETI and Breakthrough Listen, the search for alien probes, ‘Oumuamua, government UFO reports, and whether anyone could even see us from space. Where the evidence is thin or only speculation, the video says so, and it says plainly that there is no verified evidence that aliens are visiting Earth.
