Gadget Racers is an arcade-style racing game franchise developed by Takara, based on Japan's highly popular Choro-Q line of cute, chibi pullback toy cars. Because localized naming conventions varied wildly across regions and consoles, the title Gadget Racers was used for the North American version of Choro-Q HG on the PlayStation 2, the US release of Choro-Q Advance on the Game Boy Advance, and the European release of Road Trip: The Arcade Edition. Functioning essentially like a playful, miniature version of Gran Turismo, the core of the gameplay revolves around completing championship cups, earning prize money, and deeply customizing your vehicle with hundreds of interchangeable parts. True to its name, players must equip their tiny toy cars with specialized "gadgets" to overcome diverse terrain—such as off-road dirt tires for muddy tracks, skis for snow levels, and even literal propellers and floats to seamlessly drive through underwater resort sections.
