Official advice tells households to prepare for three days without power. But what if a blackout lasts a week, or even two? In this video, we go through exactly what changes when an outage drags on, and how to build a realistic plan for your home and family without wasting money. We cover the essentials in priority order, starting with the one thing that matters most: clean water. You will learn why filtration beats stockpiling in small homes, how to collect and treat water from other sources, and how to transport it safely. We compare popular options such as personal bottle filters, countertop gravity filters and budget alternatives, so you can pick what suits your budget. Next, we look at food storage for limited space, including freeze dried kits, military style ration packs and everyday tinned food. We explain why you should stock what you actually eat, and why the ability to boil water matters far more than most preparedness leaflets admit. You will also hear practical tips on camping stoves, gas supply, can openers and disposable plates that save precious water. We then move on to power backup, solar charging, and why a battery without a way to recharge it becomes useless after a few days. You will also learn how to build a simple communication plan, why a quality wind up radio is worth buying, and how to put together a personal medical and hygiene setup, including a camping toilet and strong bin bags. Winter outages are the most dangerous, so we cover warmth in detail. This includes wool blankets, heated blankets powered by a portable battery, hot water bottles, hand warmers, gas heaters, diesel heaters and ethanol fireplaces, plus safe use for each. Finally, we look at keeping children calm and entertained, shrinking your living space to stay warm, head torch etiquette and candle safety. What you will learn in this video: Why water is the number one priority in a long power cut Best ways to filter, store and carry water in a small home Food options for limited storage space How to cook and boil water without electricity How to choose backup power and solar charging Communication and emergency radio basics Medical, hygiene and toilet solutions for a two week outage Ways to stay warm safely in winter How to keep kids entertained without screens or mains power Which item on this list have you not prepared for yet?
