Angela Stribling Tribute

Radio Facts remembers Angela Stribling, the Washington, D.C. radio personality, BET television host, jazz vocalist, voiceover artist and actress whose career crossed radio, television, music and Black entertainment. Angela Stribling was closely associated with WHUR 96.3 and the legendary Quiet Storm tradition created at Howard University. WHUR described her as the first woman to host the original Quiet Storm. She was also a close friend and professional collaborator of Melvin Lindsey, whose work helped define late-night Black radio in Washington, D.C. Angela later hosted Pillow Talk with Angela on WHUR, bringing together relationships, conversation, music and the intimate broadcasting style that became one of her trademarks. Her career expanded nationally through BET, where she appeared as a relief host on Video Soul, including filling in for Donnie Simpson, and worked on programs including Jazz Central with Ramsey Lewis and Lou Rawls, Jazz Discovery and BET Jazz Scene. Her voice and broadcasting work was also connected with WBLS in New York, SiriusXM Watercolors and national radio and television programming. Outside of broadcasting, Angela Stribling was a classically trained vocalist and accomplished jazz singer who performed in the United States and internationally.
