In the PSB Confluence 2026, there was a pointed discussion on how to further reform the banking sector, more importantly, the PSBs, which have a stronger umbilical connection with the grassroots-level economy. This PSB Confluence is framed as the next phase of PSB reform — building on a position of strength. PSBs have brought down Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) to a historically low level, and capital adequacy is far above the minimum threshold, putting the banking sector in a strong position to move ahead with the next phase of reforms. The Seven Thematic Frameworks 1. Envisioning the customer experience of the future 2. Strengthening governance and operational excellence 3. Driving innovation through technology partnerships 4. Improving asset quality 5. Agriculture and Horticulture Value Chain Infrastructure 6. Priority Sector Lending (PSL) 7. Reimagining the Credit Card business Each of the seven themes had a dedicated working group that produced practical, implementable strategies, crystallizing the deliberations into concrete action points rather than leaving them as open discussion. The two-day PSB Confluence 2026 (held on 17–18 August 2026 in New Delhi by the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance) brought together leadership from Public Sector Banks (PSBs), Public Financial Institutions (PFIs), and domain experts. The central theme was leveraging historically low Non-Performing Asset (NPA) levels and strong balance sheets to pivot from balance-sheet repair to proactive growth, building institutional strength for Viksit Bharat 2047.
