Robert Redford accepts Career Achievement Award

Robert Redford accepts the Career Achievement Award at the 2014 International Documentary Association Awards @ Paramount Studios. He recalls watching the Army-McCarthy hearings on TV as a child, and years later watching Emile de Antonio's documentary "Point of Order." And so began his love of documentary film, including D. A. Pennebaker, Robin Melanie Leacock, the Drew Associates, and Albert Maysles. Robert Redford employed documentary style to films he made, including "The Candidate" and "Downhill Racer." Over the years, he has made small documentaries dealing with environmental issues and Native American rights. When the Sundance Film Festival was established, he realized he could create a platform for documentaries in the film festival. That led to "The House of Docs" and a documentary lab at Sundance.
